This might be the most technical archery field course in the Netherlands.
In the east of the Netherlands, near Enschede and the Dutch-German border, lies a village known as the Star of Twente: Haaksbergen. The village has about 24,000 residents, and the local archery club hosted two field tournaments this year: one in January and one in July.
The course consisted of 24 unmarked targets. The organizers changed the peg placements between day one and day two. While the turnout on both days wasn’t large, it was still enough to make for an enjoyable tournament with a solid group of archers.
On the course, several targets were clearly designed to be as challenging as possible. A few were placed in dark, shaded areas, while the shooting position was in bright light. On other targets, a pond or ditch was placed between the archer and the target, making it harder to estimate the distance.
The forecast had predicted a rainy weekend, but most of the rain passed by, and it stayed fairly dry throughout.
The next field tournament for us is the 5 Nations Cup in St. Oedenrode, taking place on the 12th and 13th of July.
